31 per cent of U.S. holiday shoppers came to empty shelves - half of them left the store to look for one that actually had something to sell.
The Aldata survey reveals that food and beverage retailers top the out-of-stock list (56 per cent of customers encountering empty shelves), followed by
toys and games (39%)
apparel and footwear (39%)
consumer electronics (30%)
video games and consoles (25%)
Also from the same survey, although not necessarily causally linked, more than half of the respondents plan to spend less this year.
